Andy Mcintyre
Andy first picked up the bass at the age of 17 - the choice of instrument was partly practical - no one wanted to play bass!
Andy spent a summer stateside, studying music at a contemporary music school in Boston, providing great exposure to excellent teachers.
Moving to London in 2001, Andy's love of music and bass playing was reignited by frequent visits to Ronnie Scott's and the Jazz Cafe. "The opportunities to hear hugely talented artists of all genres, perform in the capital is almost endless. And it's this, that encouraged me to dig out and dust down my old bass" Andy recalls.
Andy's a big Motown fan and generally loves anything that grooves. Subsequently, when the chance came to play with Steve Rothery and Chris Norris, Andy took it:
"Steve's meld of soulful, funky stuff reminds me of listening to Masters at Work - and in terms of dance music, must be the most satisfying stuff for any bass player to be involved with. And listening to Chris play reminds me of an awesome night clubbing in Cape Town, when for the first time, I heard live sax blowing over the top of house music - it was brilliant!"
Since reconnecting with his passion for music, Andy has been playing some gigs with Australian singer/songwriter Vale Taite. Whilst these gigs are a little different from the Roast Groove events, Andy thinks the contrast compliments each other from a playing perspective and is looking forward to being a regular member of Roast Groove.
